KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad has announced that he will be contesting the vice-president post in the upcoming party polls.
He said that he was nominated for the posts of central committee chief and vice-president by his division members, and would be contesting as a sign of respect.
“I was nominated for both the positions but have decided to reject the post of central committee chief.
“I will be contesting for the vice-presidency instead,” he told reporters after a site visit to Pandan Indah stalls, which is set to be rebuilt with better amenities.
Iskandar said he had received substantial nominations for the post and felt duty-bound to contest.
“I am joining the fray so as not to disappoint them,” said Iskandar, who is also the Cempaka assemblyman.
Iskandar will be going against incumbent Datuk Husam Musa, who had earlier announced his candidacy.
PAS will hold its internal election for top office bearers during its annual muktamar from June 4 to 6.
