Merry and bright: Festive themed nail art takes centre stage this season with customers opting for cute Xmas designs and colours.
JOHOR BARU: Women who want to nail the look for the Christmas season are getting manicures with reindeer designs and tiny ornaments.
Legal assistant Jacinta Yau, 27, said she spent about RM200 at a nail salon and chose a red nosed reindeer design.
“I chose a deep green colour to get into the festive mood for an upcoming Christmas party with my friends,” she said, adding that her time spent at the salon was also a way to pamper herself.
Housewife Chin Sin Shuan, 36, who goes to a manicurist once a month to get her nails done, said she usually changed her nail designs two to three times in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
“I like my nails to suit my outfits. It makes good conversation topics at parties as well,” said the mother-of-two.
Momo The Concept Salon managing director Stephy Pang said reindeer designs took centre stage this year with customers in favour of them with the popular festive colours of red, green and blue.
The “mismatched” trend was preferred this year with some customers opting to have 10 different designs on each nail compared to the traditional one colour look, she said.
“The technology used is called ‘i-gelofoil’ which create nail designs like snowflakes and Santa’s belt buckle in 3-D even though it is painted on a flat nail surface,” she said.
Pang said customers in her outlets in Taman Desa Tebrau and Tebrau City here had been asking for “festive manicure” and Christmas themes since November as the designs could last about a month.
Pang also said women were willing to spend hours and hundreds of ringgit just for nail care and nail designs, which ranged from RM50 to RM300.
