KUALA LUMPUR: It was truly a night of celebration for Star Publications (M) Bhd at the Human Resources Excellence Awards Malaysia when it scooped six awards out of the 10 categories it contested.
Its group HR and administration general manager Terence Raj said the awards were a recognition for The Star HR Department, pitting it against other organisations.
“Our team members put in a lot of effort, and this recognition will hopefully inspire them to work harder to make us even better,” he said after the prize-giving ceremony at Hilton Kuala Lumpur here last night.
The department won the Excellence in Leadership gold award, Excellence in HR Social Media and Technology silver award, as well as bronze awards for Excellence in Employer Branding, Excellence in Graduate Development, Excellence in Talent Management and Excellence in Recruitment and Retention Strategy.
The awards, now in the second year, are organised by Human Resources magazine to recognise outstanding HR practices and leadership, provide a platform for HR practitioners to network as well as to celebrate their achievements.
Magazine editor Rebecca Lewis said finalists for all 16 categories were evaluated by a panel of experienced HR professionals.
“Any good HR professional knows the value of rewarding good work and recognising contributions, which is why the awards exist in this format.
“This year’s entries not only gave us great insight into current people management practices, but also helped set new benchmarks and standards for the wider HR industry in Malaysia,” she said.
Star Publications’ sister company Leaderonomics also clinched a victory when it was named Small Employer of the Year.
“This is a big honour for us, and a result of our team’s collective effort. I hope this win will encourage the team to reach greater heights,” said Leaderonomics HR and finance lead Ang Hui Ming.
Siemens Malaysia was named HR Team of the Year and HR Grand Winner, while its senior vice-president and head of human resources Rahima Ibrahim was named HR Professional of the Year.
