FASHION enthusiasts rejoiced when the ninth season of the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend Autumn/Winter 2014/2015 (KLFWend) was launched at the National Visual Arts Gallery, Kuala Lumpur recently.
The launch saw a fashion show featuring various local designers as well as performances by Malaysian singers Jefri Ramli, Irma Lailatul Munira and Izen.
Unlike a typical fashion week, which is conventionally a trade-focused event with selected fashion buyers as its target audience, KLFWend was aimed at consumers.
Providing a platform for brand exposure and to create an important revenue stream for the local retail industry, KLFWend had a wide range of participants for its showcase.
They included local department stores Metrojaya and Parkson; online shopping store Fashion Valet featuring Haflins, Alia Bastamam, among others; premium junior labels Hugo Boss Kids, Young Versace and Paul Smith Kids; accessories label Axxezz by Gina Frias; leading local labels Khoon Hooi, Variante and more; and a cross label collaboration between internationally renowned British designer Dame Zandra Rhodes and homegrown Karyaneka.
The launch also saw a special showcase by House of Batik by Deanoor featuring Deanoor’s Autumn/Winter 14/15 collection.
KLFWend events are held during annual national sale events such as the 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival (1MMSC) and 1Malaysia Year-End Sale (1MYES) to support the government’s initiative to promote Malaysia as a vibrant Duty Free Shopping Destination.
The event also hopes to attract more new luxury and lifestyle brands to Malaysia and make the country a retail distribution hub within the region, in line with the Tourism NKEA Entry Point Project#1: Malaysia, Duty Free Destination.
KLFWend also presented three other shows, the Kuala Lumpur Alta Moda, New Generation Fashion Awards and Fit For Fashion Showcase.
First introduced in 2010, KLFWend has highlighted local retail labels and brands and invited participation from existing international labels and brands in Malaysia over the years.
It has also helped promote other aspects of the shopping segment, including online shopping, children’s wear, accessories, emerging fresh talents and designer high-end labels.
KLFWend was organised in conjunction with the 1Malaysia Year-End Sale 2014, with support of Tourism Malaysia.
