Australian expertise: A visiting professor from the University of Tasmania (a partner of Equator) giving a talk to students at Equator.
SCHOOL leavers who wish to forge successful careers in architecture and interior design can get their a headstart at the renowned Equator College in Penang.
Its School of Built and Environment offers diploma courses in Architectural Technology and Interior Design that equip students with the relevant skills required by the industry.
The three-year courses include comprehensive training that meets international standards.
According to the college’s marketing and promotions executive Cindy Leow, career prospects include being an architectural assitant, architectural designer, CAD designer or 3D visualiser.
One can also become an interior designer, furniture designer, project coordinator, model maker, or conceptual artist.
The minimum entry requirement for the Interior Design course is three credits in the SPM/UEC/GCE examinations, or equivalent. For Architectural Technology, one needs five credits including English and Mathematics.
Students will get to use international industry-acclaimed software like Autodesk Revit which helps architects and designers develop high-quality and accurate designs.
Students also receive certification from Autodesk in the US and enjoy practical training linking them with college alumni.
They also get to take part in a graduation exhibition in the final year where they can showcase their works to potential employers and thus, secure job opportunities.
Upon graduation, they can choose to work locally or abroad, or pursue degree education at Equator’s partner institutions like the University of Tasmania in Australia.
“Our graduates are highly sought after as we produce skilled and employable talent for the relevant industries,” Leow pointed out.
The college also offers programmes in Graphic and Multimedia Design, Digital 3D Animation, Fashion Design Technology and Fine Art.

Digital 3D Animation department head Jason Chuah is set to give a talk titled ‘Wonderful World of Animation’ on March 22 from 3.15pm to 4.15pm.
There will also be a live 3D animation demonstration using the award-winning Autodesk Maya software and live painting demos during the fair.
