Body of man who fell into Bakun lake found


SIBU: The body of a man who fell into the lake in Ulu Naha near the Bakun Hydroelectric Dam in Belaga on Tuesday (June 21) has been found.

A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department operations centre spokesman said the man's body was found at 9.40pm Wednesday (June 22) night.

He said villagers identified the man as Heli Nyalong, 36, from Block P, Uma Bakah, Sungai Asap Belaga resettlement scheme, about 460km from here.

The victim was reported to have gone missing on Tuesday.

The spokesman said the Belaga Fire and Rescue Station received a call about the incident at 3.15pm on Tuesday and a team was sent to the scene to search for the victim.

"At 11.30pm on Wednesday, the operations centre received a call from the Fire Operations commander at the location informing it that the victim's body had been found by villagers 5m from the spot where he fell in," the spokesman said in a statement on Thursday (June 23).

He said the victim's body was then taken to a nearby longhouse before being taken to Hospital Nyabau in Bintulu for a post-mortem before being handed over to his family for burial. – Bernama
