20 vehicles razed in workshop fire at Mersing


MERSING: Eighteen cars, two motorcycles and heavy machinery were destroyed in a fire which took place at the Mersing Industrial Park near here.

Mersing Fire and Rescue station chief Mohd Azhari Awi said the vehicles were stored in the garage of a car workshop when the fire broke out.

He said the incident happened at 6.12pm on Thursday (April 28).

“Nineteen firefighters from the Mersing and Endau Fire and Rescue stations were deployed to the scene,’’ Mohd Azhari said in a statement.

He said one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), an Emergency Medical Response Service (EMRS) and Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) vehicles were used in the firefighting operations.

Mohd Azhari said 85% of the car workshop was damaged in the fire, adding that the cause of the fire and losses suffered were still under investigation.

The fire was put out at 8.23pm.
