Awang Tengah appointed as Sarawak’s third DCM

KUCHING: Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan has been appointed as Sarawak’s third deputy chief minister in a major Cabinet reshuffle that also involved the appointment of two new ministers and assistant ministers.

Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the new line-up would take effect today after a swearing-in ceremony before head of state Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud.

Awang Tengah was also appointed as Second Minister for Urban Development and Natural Resources, while retaining his portfolio as Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development.

Two assistant ministers promoted to full ministers are Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah (Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports) and Datuk Talib Zulpilip (Minister in the Chief Ministers Office for Integrity and Ombudsmen).

The two new assistant ministers to be sworn-in today are Abdullah Saidol (Chief Minister’s Office Corporate Affairs) and Snowdan Lawan (Youth and Sports).

“The reshuffle is timely and necessary to implement policies that I have announced earlier.

“This is a team that will improve on what we have planned to move the state forward,” Abang Johari told a packed press conference at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching yesterday after the conclusion of the PBB Jasamu Dikenang special convention.
