Kok Ping: I say again ... I am not being probed

GEORGE TOWN: Penang tycoon Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping continues to be hounded by the media despite making it clear that he is not one of the businessmen with a Tan Sri title being investigated for tax evasion and corruption.

“Why do people always think it’s me when something like this crops up? There is no such thing. It’s not good for you to keep wondering if it is me,” he said.

“I gave my statement last Sunday to a journalist of The Star because we are old friends.

“All other papers quoted my statement in The Star and that should be enough,” Tan, who is the board chairman of SJK(C) Hun Bin in Tanjung Bungah, said when asked about the probe at a press conference held to show how the school helped pupils reduce the weight of their schoolbags by 30% to 50% after installing pigeonhole shelves in classrooms.

Tan told The Star on Sunday he had nothing to do with the probe and welcomed authorities to investigate as he had done nothing wrong.

It was reported that the accounts and assets of two Tan Sris and a Datuk Seri were frozen in a special operation jointly conducted by the National Revenue Enforcement Team, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the police and the Customs Department last week.
