BATU PAHAT: Police will haul up those responsible for sharing on social media a photo and false information of a baby found abandoned in a drain at Pekan Rengit.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Wahib Musa said the posts, which were being circulated via the WhatsApp messaging app, proved to be baseless following checks by his men in the mentioned area.
Two days ago, the Rengit police station received a call from the public at around 11.50am that a donation box and a burnt security guard uniform were found near a drain at Jalan Besar Rengit.
"Although we found a donation box with the name Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Islam Batu Pahat written on it and the security guard uniform, there was no human body," he said in a statement here on Saturday.
He said the two items have been brought to the Rengit police station for further investigations.
He also urged members of the public to not believe any viral posting on social media regarding the matter and to stop sharing it immediately.
