Transgender woman found dead with gunshot wound

KUANTAN: A transgender woman was found dead with a gunshot wound and her body mutilated.

The victim, known to her family as Sameera Krishnan, 26, was said to have gone out at 3am Thursday to get something to eat.

Her cousin V. Reenunair, 29, said her family was informed that Sameera had been injured in an incident in Jalan Pasar here at about 4am.

"We didn't know that she was dead at that time. We went to the mortuary and found she had been shot.

"Four fingers of her right hand were chopped off and she had injuries on the head.

"We don't know why anyone would hurt her like this," Reenunair said when met at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan here.

Reenunair said Sameera worked at a flower shop here and had never complained of anyone harassing her.

She added that Sameera was born male but had lived as a woman for the past seven to eight years.

Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Aziz Salleh confirmed the incident and said investigations were under way.
