Thousands late for work due to faulty gantry on MBIKE lane

JOHOR BARU: Motorcyclists rushing to Singapore for work were stuck at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex due to a faulty motorcycle gantry.

The problem which began at 7am on Monday and was caused by a faulty bar on the MBIKE lane left thousands of motorcyclists fuming.

Johor Baru (South) OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh said that the Immigration Department was able to rectify the issue by 8.55am.

At least 100,000 motorcyclist have registered for the MBIKE system.

The MBIKE system was introduced last year to help reduce congestion at entry points between Malaysia and Singapore by up to 50 percent.

It is similar to the autogates placed at all entry and exit points in Malaysia.

The system uses a radio frequency identification device (RFID) sticker attached to the holder’s passport, requiring him to place his thumb on the reader before the gantry gate opens.
