Verbal warfare won’t help Chinese education, Lim told

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s criticisms of MCA “is not helping the development of Chinese education.”

Penang MCA deputy chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng said: “He must know that Chinese education issues cannot be resolved through verbal warfare, and need attentive effort.

“MCA is the one working hard to solve the problem,” Tan said in a statement in response to allegations that Chinese primary schools (SJKCs) have not received their allocation of RM50mil from the Education Ministry.

On Wednesday, Lim asked if the ministry needed a loan of RM50mil from the state government.

Tan said Lim “only knows how to issue provocative but meaningless remarks to get into the news, but in reality he only exposes his own weaknesses.”

“Lim recently requested money from the Federal Government to solve the water issue, but now offers to lend money to the Federal Government,” he said.

Tan said the Penang government should make better use of the money to solve its own water and flood problems.

“If the state government has a comfortable fiscal balance, it should build more affordable housing to benefit the people.

“The Penang state government should also not rely on the sale of land to increase revenues,” he said.
