Umno AGM: Bumiputra rights will disappear under DAP-led rule, says Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) has predicted that bumiputra rights will disappear should the country fall under a DAP-led government.

In his presidential policy speech during the opening of the 2016 Umno general assembly in Putra World Trade Centre here on Thursday, Najib said the Malays and bumiputras were facing a crucial political crossroads in the next general election where they will determine who will lead the governing of the country.

“Should the country fall into the hands of DAP, who champion extreme liberalism and dangerous secularism, surely the special rights and privileges that have been advocated and defended by Umno over the years, including bumiputra institutions such as Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara), Felda, Risda, Felcra and the Bumiputra Agenda Steering Unit (Teraju), will become extinct and disappear,” said the Prime Minister.

He said that similarly, the 60-year-old Malay-bumiputra higher education institution, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), will also not be able to maintain its founding philosophies.

“Surely we as Muslims will be worried, hurt and angry, when Islam and its practice will certainly be trivialised if DAP comes into power,” he said.

“Even worse, if DAP’s constitution is analysed, no mention is made of Islam as a Federal religion, no mention is made of the upholding of the institution of the Malay Rulers or protecting the rights and privileges of Malays and bumiputras,” he said.

Najib also predicted that the existence of Malay-Muslim institutions such as Tabung Haji, the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim), the Wakaf, Zakat and Haji Department (Jawhar) and state Zakat bodies will be challenged under a DAP-led government.

The AGM ends on Saturday.
