Tanjung Karang to get RM265mil hospital

KUALA SELANGOR: A RM265mil hospital is set to be built in Tanjung Karang after years of delays due to technical issues, said Tan Sri Noh Omar.

The Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister said that in the latest update, the state Works Department confirmed that an offer letter has been issued to the project contractor.

“The letter should have been sent in April but there were delays.

“The hospital’s construction was delayed before this due to technical glitches between the department and the contractor.

“But now, with the issues settled, the hospital is set to be built,” he told a press conference after presenting goodies in conjunction with Deepavali to residents in the Tanjung Karang parliamentary constituency here Tuesday.

Noh, who is also Tanjung Karang MP, said one glitch involved insufficient allocation for the hospital to be built.

“The Prime Minister had announced an allocation of RM250mil for the hospital three years ago and it was an estimated cost.

“The building and planning work later revealed that the initial allocation was insufficient and I requested for more funds immediately.

“The approval for the additional allocation took time and that was what caused the delay,” he said, adding that an additional RM15mil has been approved for the hospital.

Noh also refuted claims that only a dental clinic instead of a hospital was approved for Tanjung Karang, as the dental clinic was originally within his request for a hospital.

“Instead of the existing site, the new dental clinic will sit on the same 16ha site as the new hospital since there is enough space,” he added.

Meanwhile, Noh challenged the Selangor state administration to make public the police reports that were allegedly lodged by the Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) on recent incidents of contamination in the Semenyih River.

“In my capacity as a minister, I want to request for a copy of the police reports to see what was alleged.

“We want to know whether the reports are real or not. Where were the reports lodged? If they are false, then we will file a report on it,” he added.
