LANGKAWI: A holiday trip by a family from Saudi Arabia to Tasik Dayang Bunting here ended in tragedy when one of the tourists drowned after he slipped and fell into the lake on Thursday.
In the incident, which occurred at about 5.30pm, the young tourist, identified as Alahmadi Hussain Fuada, 19, was believed to have slipped and fallen from the floating platform at the lake.
Langkawi Fire and Rescue Station chief Senior Asst Fire Supt Yaakob Hassan said family members were playing on the platform when the youth slipped and fell.
"We received a distress call at 5.39pm and rushed to the scene with eight personnel and a scuba team to carry out search and rescue operations.
The body of the victim was found at 7.15pm and taken to Langkawi Hospital for a post-mortem.
