PAS calls on Muslims to reject extremism

PETALING JAYA: The nation's Islamist party, PAS, urged Muslims here not to involve themselves with extremists groups such as the Islamic State (IS) militants which are against Islamic teaching and practices.

PAS deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Islam is a religion that preaches salvation with the Prophet sent to bring blessing and not disaster.

“Don't get involved with extremist groups.

"Muslims should not involve themselves with the IS movement and all other extremists groups because they are against the teaching of Islam,” he said in statement issued to the media on Tuesday.

He added that extremist attitudes were against Islamic religious practices and this is universal in all other religions.

“In championing religion and implementation of Islam, Muslims cannot be awkward and take the easy path.

“Those who wish for quick victory will act aggressively and sideline the prohibitions in Islam resulting in a wrong view of Islam,” he added.

Tuan Ibrahim also said that PAS is hopeful that Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and the police force will take steps to improve on weaknesses in monitoring IS militants and remain vigilant in acting against those bent on destroying the nation.

“I call on members of the public to play a role in helping ensure the safety of public places as a precautionary measure,” he added.

Tuan Ibrahim's statement was in response to Khalid's confirmation of local IS militant involvement in the mini-grenade attack on Movida Kitchen, Bar & Club Lounge in Puchong last Tuesday.

The 2.15am blast at the nightspot left eight people, including a female Chinese national, injured.
