KOTA KINABALU: Sipitang MP Datuk Sapawi Ahmad escaped with light injuries after the Toyota Land Cruiser he was in crashed head on with another vehicle along the Sipitang – Beaufort road during heavy rain Sunday.
Sapawi, who is Yayasan Sabah director, was warded for observation at the Beaufort Hospital for chest pains, Beaufort district police chief Deputy Supt Azmir Abdul Razak said.
DSP Azmir said Sapawi was sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.
Sapawi’s driver, Abdul Madi Awangku, suffered serious leg injuries while his aide, Mohd Dzul Mohd Kassim, suffered light head injuries.
The 27-year-old driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, suffered serious leg injuries following the 4.10pm accident.
All have been warded at the hospital.
Sapawi was on his way back to Kota Kinabalu from his Sipitang constituency after attending a function when the accident occurred.
He is scheduled to join Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman on Monday morning to mark Yayasan Sabah’s grand 50th anniversary celebrations here.
