PREVIOUSLY, all I knew about transsexual women, like many others in this country, was skin deep and superficial. To me, they were the “ladies” behind boutique or cosmetic counters in departmental stores, or the arrested sex workers featured on television news.
They seemed to be miles away from my life and as such I hardly bumped into them, much less talked about how I felt about them.
