New train terminal in Labu to serve HSR

SEREMBAN: A new train terminal will be constructed in Labu near here to serve the proposed high-speed rail link (HSR) between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the stop, to be built under the transit-oriented-development (TOD) concept, will be the only one serving the rail link in the state.

“We have proposed Labu as the sole stop for the HSR in Negri Sembilan to both the Transport Ministry and the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), and both parties are agreeable,” he said.

Mohamad said the state government had also suggested that another rail link be built from the proposed station to the KL International Airport.

“This is to allow commuters to have easier access to the KLIA and enable faster movement of people,” he told reporters here yesterday.

The HSR service, which will run on a new alignment altogether, will shorten the current travel time between the federal capital and Singapore from five hours to just 90 minutes.

The rail service is proposed to also have stops in Ayer Keroh (Malacca), Muar, Batu Pahat and Nusajaya in Johor.

The HSR is expected to go to tender in June.

SPAD had estimated that the HSR will carry up to 49,000 passengers daily by its 10th year of operation and an annual ridership of 17.9 million.
