PETALING JAYA: Fourteen new stops will be added to two of the free-to-ride GOKL Kuala Lumpur bus service's routes from Oct 1 onwards.
Affecting the Red Line and Blue Line routes, the move according to the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) was a part of a plan to increase the service's ridership.
In a statement on Tuesday the commission said the two routes would no longer begin from the Medan Mara stop.
It said the Red and Blue lines would instead start from the Jalan Tun Razak bus terminal (formerly known as the Pekeliling bus terminal), citing better transit integration.
"This improvement includes a beginning-and-end location change (and) increased services to public focus destinations," a spokesperson said.
Under the Red Line, the new bus stops are: Jalan Tun Razak bus terminal, Damai Hospital, Chow Kit (Jalan Ipoh) and Grand Season.
Under the Blue Line, these stops are: Jalan Tun Razak bus terminal, Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Medial Research Institute, Masjid Kampung Baru, Sekolah Khas Kampung Baru, Bukit Nanas, Dang Wangi LRT station, Puteri Park Hotel, Chow Kit and Grand Season.
It was added that another nine stops on these two lines would no longer be operational, with SPAD citing poor ridership.
These were: Wisma Sime Darby and Maju Junction (for the Red Line), with Menara Uniasaia, Medan Tunku Monorail, Campbell Complex, Maju Junction, Wisma MPL, The Weld and Sogo shopping centre (for the Blue Line).
The changes mean that the Red Line will now have 21 stops and be 13km long, with a journey time of 50 minutes during peak hours.
The Blue Line on the other hand will now have 19 stops and be 12km long, with a journey time of 45 minutes during peak periods.
The Green and Purple Lines, which service KLCC to Bukit Bintang and Pasar Seni to Bukit Bintang respectively, will not be affected.
