Charity group distributes fresh vege thrice a week to low-income families

A charitable association has been distributing fresh vegetables to over 100 low-income families in Kulai, Johor, to help them cope with rising cost of living. Kasih Sayang Welfare Association (Aixin) founder Datin Nicole Fam Yuen Lee said they started the weekly initiative in 2015 at several flats and has since been giving fresh produce every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The recipients could choose from a variety of vegetables, including long beans, brinjals, and pumpkins, supplied by a generous farmer who is one of Aixin's members. "The idea to distribute vegetables came to me when I visited the farm and asked the owner to reach out to the needy. Most of the (low-income) families chose not to consume green as a way to safe money," Fam said. "There is no condition and anyone, regardless of race and religion, is eligible to get the vegetables for free," Fam said. All they need to do is bring a plastic bag to put the fresh produce, she said.
