Dr Tan: Legalising traders will stem practice of paying ’protection money’

LEGALISING traders is a step towards putting an end to them being bullied by gangsters for “protection fees,” Wangsa Maju MP Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew said.

“Through a survey conducted with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), we found out that the initial number of traders with valid licences at the Teratai Mewah morning market in Setapak was 40 and many others were operating there illegally.
