KUALA LUMPUR: Selected RapidKL buses will have a “sporty new look” with special wrap-around advertisements in conjunction with National Sports Day.

Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin unveiled the wrap-around adverts, which will be applied to 20 standard RapidKL buses and one of the new double-decker buses.

This initiative is set to coincide with National Sports Day on Oct 10, which celebrates health, sporting achievement and national unity through sports.

In addition to the spruced-up fleet, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (which owns the buses) will also be launching the MyRapid Challenge.

The challenge requires public transport users to do four exercises – jumping jacks, push ups, rope skipping and hula-hooping – and be rewarded with free rides on RapidKL buses, LRT and monorail.

Khairy said the challenge encourages MyRapid customers to be more active in addition to the usual walking that goes with taking public transport.

When asked about the haze affecting the country, Khairy said they would take that in consideration when getting people to do the exercises.

Prasarana Malaysia president and group chief executive officer Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz, who also attended the launch, said there was no set budget for the challenge.

“Our concern is to help Malaysians get more healthy,” he added.
