Sabah quake: Emergency holiday for Ranau, public urged to remain cautious

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman has advised the public to remain alert and cautious following the earthquake in Ranau.

Musa also ordered an emergency holiday for state and federal civil servants in the Ranau area in light of the earthquake that has caused damage to building structures among others.

"Even though I am away in Shanghai, I am monitoring the situation. I know many are worried because Sabah hardly experience something of this nature," he said.

He added that the relevant authorities were monitoring the situation on the ground, especially in Ranau and Kundasang, where the epicenter was.

The State Disaster Relief Committee has been activated to monitor and assist those in need including those stranded on the mountain.

“I am also asking the people to stop spreading hoaxes that there will be more earthquakes to come,” he said.

“We have not received anything official on this. We just have to be cautious."

He said the spreading of such news was irresponsible as it was causing panic among the people.
