KUALA LUMPUR: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang is unperturbed by the strong resistance from DAP over the Islamic party’s push for the implementation of hudud in Kelantan.
He said Pakatan Rakyat colleagues, PKR and DAP, had also done things in the past without consulting PAS.
He also kept mum on whether the central leadership was actively seeking the support of Umno MPs in Parliament for the hudud issue.
He insisted all Muslims must support hudud. “Kita tunggu dulu (We will wait first). It is compulsory for all Muslims to support (hudud),” he said yesterday when asked if Umno MPs would back the Bill.
The media had queried him about reports that PAS divisions nationwide had been instructed to lobby for support from their political rivals.
Hadi said they would await the fate of the Private Member’s Bill submitted by him to Dewan Rakyat.
Earlier yesterday, several representatives from Titiwangsa PAS met with their MP, Barisan’s Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani, at the Parliament lobby to submit a memorandum seeking his support for the Private Member’s Bill.
Hadi said PAS was following due process and would wait to see if the Bill to amend Section 2 of the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 would be debated in Parliament.
The motion by the Marang MP was included as the last item in Tuesday’s order paper, and he confirmed that a request to bring it forward for debate had been made to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia has yet to decide whether to allow the Bill to go through.
