Couple burnt to death after car crashes into bus

PEKAN: A couple burnt to death when the car they were travelling in burst into flames after colliding with an express bus in Kampung Sungai Miang.

Lans Koperal Mohd Safiuddin Mohd Sezali, who was driving the car, and his wife Nor Farina Rosli, both 26, died in the collision that occurred at about 4.45am yesterday along Jalan Pekan-Nenasi.

The couple were on their way to Kem Mahkota Kluang after celebrating Hari Raya Aidiladha in the husband’s village in Setiu, Terengganu, when the tragedy happened.

Mohd Safiuddin was attached with the 8th squadron of the Royal Malay Regiment based at the camp. Nor Farina was a village nurse at a clinic in Sungai Sayong.

Pekan OCPD Supt Yahya Othman said Mohd Safiuddin apparently lost control of his car before it collided with the oncoming bus.

“The impact caused both vehicles to burst into flames.

“All 30 bus passengers and the driver managed to escape,” said Supt Yahya.

“However, the couple was trapped in their burning car.”

He said the bus was on its way to Terengganu from Singapore.
