Guan Eng under spotlight again over ‘no-parking’ issue

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has come under fire again when photographs of his official car allegedly parked at a no-parking zone at a mall in Jalan Datuk Keramat here was uploaded on Facebook.

He denied claims that the Mercedes Benz S300 with the registration number PG1 was parked illegally at a spot labelled “No Parking” and said that the mall’s management had told Lim’s driver he could park there.

“I’ve talked to my driver about this and he was upset," Lim said on Monday.

“He explained that the car was parked inside the Penang Times Square, which is a private area, and he was told by the management to park at that spot.

“My driver is frustrated because everything he did is now being questioned,” he added.

Lim said he had no issues if people would like to highlight problems about the state government or that of his driver but he urged them to be fair.

He also questioned why the Chinese daily, which published the story, did not mention where the photographs were obtained.

“Why did the paper not state that the photograph was taken from a pro-Barisan blog?" Lim asked.

Last year, Lim found himself being the target of criticism when photographs of his official car that was parked illegally in Lebuh Campbell were uploaded on Facebook.

He, however, said that his driver was in the car at that time.
