High Court rules 2009 arrest of lawyers unlawful, awards damages


KUALA LUMPUR: Five lawyers have won their claim against the police and Government for wrongful arrest, detention and false imprisonment.

In a landmark decision, High Court judge Justice John Louis O’Hara ruled Friday the arrest of lawyers Ravinder Singh Dhalliwal, Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, Murnie Hidayah Anuar, Puspawati Rosman and Syuhaini Safwan on May 7, 2009 as unlawful and awarded RM15,000 in general damages and RM60,000 in aggravated and exemplary damages to each of the five.
