State reps should put people's interest first, says Liow

KUALA LUMPUR: State assemblymen in Terengganu should give top priority to the interests of the people and the Government, said MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai.

He said MCA was very concerned about the developments in the state, which saw former mentri besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and two Umno representatives quitting the party to become independents.

“The purpose of us running for election is to serve the people and we must ensure that the state ­government continues to do so,” he said.

Liow was speaking to reporters after attending a Wesak Day celebration at Wisma Buddhist yesterday.

He said he was confident that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would be able to resolve any crisis in Terengganu.

He hoped that the Barisan Nasional government would take immediate action to stabilise the situation in Terengganu.

Stability in the state government, he said, was important for the people and the country.

Liow said that he had been in contact with Terengganu MCA liaison chief Datuk Toh Chin Yaw to keep himself informed on the developments in the state.
