Police track down and find Sri Lankan woman who was held for three days

KUALA LUMPUR: Police rescued a Sri Lankan woman who had been kidnapped and held for ransom for three days.

They also arrested the three kidnappers after tracking them to a house at Wangsa Melawati where the victim was being held.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahim Abdullah said the 20-year-old woman, accompanied by her Malay­sian relative, was lured to Batu Caves at around 1pm on Sunday to meet with one of the kidnappers who had posed as a travel agent.

“The suspect had brought her to Malaysia and was pretending to help her enrol for her studies here,” he said when contacted yesterday.

However, when the woman and her relative arrived there, the “agent” and two other men beat up the relative before forcing the woman into a grey Proton Wira and sped off.

The kidnappers later called the relative on the victim’s phone and demanded RM8,500 in ransom. She quickly lodged a police report.

ACP Abdul Rahim said police managed to track down the kidnappers to a house in Wangsa Melawati around 11pm on Wednesday.

“When we approached the house, one of the kidnappers noticed us and ran inside before locking the door.

“We had to break down the door to gain entry before arresting two men, an Indian national and a Sri Lankan, and rescued the victim who was locked up in a room,” he said.

Following information gathered from the two detainees, police then conducted a second raid at Sri Gotong apartments around three hours later where the last kidnapper – a 33-year-old Sri Lankan man was detained.
