KUALA LUMPUR: Suggestions to increase the minimum wage will be looked into during the mid-year review, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot.
The minimum wage of RM900 for the peninsula and RM800 for Sabah and Sarawak came into effect this month.
“The mid-year review will take place in June or July. After six months, we will know what the impact is.
“We can then have dialogues and improve on weaknesses. There will be some positive steps taken. It must be a win-win situation,” said Richard after witnessing the Corporate Integrity Pledge signing ceremony by the ministry’s Human Resources Development Fund with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission here yesterday.
Richard, who also launched HRDF’s Code of Business Ethics, was asked to comment on the suggestion by Cuepacs president Azih Muda to increase the minimum wage to RM1,200, given the higher cost of living this year.
