GM dropped Azmin, says Selangor MB

SHAH ALAM: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali was actually dropped from the Selangor State Develop­ment Corporation (PKNS) board by its general manager Othman Omar, says Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

“We are waiting to clear some requirements under official secrets before making the termination letter (from Othman to Azmin) public,” Khalid told a press conference after chairing the weekly exco meeting here yesterday.

He said Othman’s request was approved during the exco meeting on Dec 4 last year in pursuant of his letter.

Azmin was informed of the termination of his tenure in a formal letter sent last week.

“A letter was given to Azmin and he accepted it,” said Khalid.

Supporters of Azmin, who is Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman and Gombak MP, are blaming Khalid for the termination.

They alleged that the action was a political attack by Khalid to clip Azmin’s wings before the party polls scheduled to be held soon.

Khalid also said Othman’s term as general manager is also ending at the end of this month.

He said that this was because Othman’s contract had been renewed on a monthly basis for quite a long time.

“The exco decided that having a general manager whose contract was renewable on a monthly basis was not in the best interest of PKNS,” he added.

On the selection of a new general manager for PKNS, Khalid said the state would have to pick “people with better temperament” to manage the state government-linked company.
