New Indian envoy presents credentials to King

KUALA LUMPUR: The total bilateral trade between Malaysia and India is expected to reach the targeted figure of US$20bil (RM66bil) by 2015.

T.S. Tirumurti, the new High Commissioner of India to Malaysia, said this was conveyed to him during his audience with the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at Istana Negara here.

He said the Agong was confident with this as both countries enjoyed close cooperation in various fields.

These fields included trade, investment, education, tourism, defence, cultural, technical cooperation programmes and a strong people-to-people relation, a press release from the High Commission India office said.

Tirumurti had earlier served in Jakarta, Washington DC, Gaza, Geneva and Cairo, as well as at headquarters in New Delhi in various capacities.

He presented the Letter of Credentials to the Agong on Monday.
