Stacked: One of the burgers that will be featured at I Eat Burger is 'Burger Bakar Abang Burn'.
Twenty of the top burger vendors in the Klang Valley will showcase their burger creations in what is being touted as the 'biggest burger event' of the year.
Organised by Friedchillies.com, I Eat Burger is a food celebration held on June 7 (11am to 11pm) at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya which will see the gathering of 20 of the top burger sellers in the Klang Valley. It will also feature burger competitions, films from the New York Food Film Festival, a flea market, and kid’s activities.
“Burgers, like nasi lemak, is always the highest viewed on our website,” said Adly Rizal, CEO of FriedChillies, by way of explaining why they are organising the event. Like its precursor, I Eat Nasi Lemak, Adly likens I Eat Burger to a 'Hari Kantin' where people purchase ticket booklets of RM20 containing 10 coupons each to exchange for burger tasting portions or beverages.
Among those participating in the events are Raja Burger from Seksyen 9, Shah Alam; Man Burger Kukus Lava from Damansara Damai; Usop Burger Celop from Shah Alam; MyBurgerLab from Seapark in Petaling Jaya; Smashies Burger from Setapak, and Ayer’s Rock Butcher & Grill from Jalan Ampang.
All sellers will be making tasting portions of their best-selling burgers. Prior to the event, videos of all the vendors were uploaded so everyone can plan their eating for the day. “We want people to come for the burgers, stay for the activities and films, get hungry and then eat some more!” said Aden Kudin, the event manager.
Starting June 1, HyppTV, Channel 838, and HyppTV Everywhere will be airing FriedChillies Food Network’s Burgernation in conjunction with I Eat Burgers. HyppTV, Malaysia’s leading IPTV service, is the official media partner of the event.
Burgernation is a documentary-style show focusing on 11 of the burger sellers and their personal stories. “As it turned out, the theme of the show is ‘how to start a burger business 101’,” said Honey Ahmad, the scriptwriter. “In the shows, you will discover that the sellers have generously given out their trade secrets and sound business advice on pitfalls and challenges,” she said.
Some shorts from Burgernation will be shown during the film festival happening in the evening alongside burger films from The New York Food Film Festival. Among the films from New York that will be shown are Hamburger America, How to Make a Turtle Burger and Biting into Ramen Burger. “We call it a 5D film festival because you not only get to watch and listen to the show but you’ll smell, touch and taste burgers too,” Honey said.
Coupon booklets for I Eat Burger are available at all participating burger vendors or from the FriedChillies office. Call 03-7710 6809 or 012-614 9247 (Meen) for bookings and information.
