FAM's Dr Ibrahim heads the Sports Advisory Panel


KUALA LUMPUR: The Youth and Sports Ministry have appointed an eight-member Sports Advisory Panel to help raise the standards of sports in the country. 

Datuk Azalina Othman Said, the Youth and Sports Minister, yesterday named Datuk Seri Dr Ibrahim Saad (pic), the vice-president of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) as chairman with Tuanku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar, president of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), as the deputy chairman of the panel. 

Azalina said the eight-member panel would serve for a one-year term. 

“We have chosen a strong group of people with wide knowledge in various aspects. I believe they will be able to live up to the expectations to raise the standard of sports in the country,” added Azalina. 

She said that a ninth member, a secretary, would be appointed soon. 

Azalina also identified four areas for the members to look into: 

  • the forming of a task force to look into the accounts of Sukom 98. 

  • the management of the national sports associations. 

  • the restructuring of the National Sports Council (NSC). 

  • identifying the national sport for the country.
