JOHOR BARU: Some of the residents living in low cost flats in Bandar Selesa are refusing to pay their quit rent with the excuse that they are too old and without transportation to go to the land office.
The state Land and Mines Office collected RM162mil in quit rent up to Dec 21 last year, said Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob.
Landowners in Negri Sembilan who have been asked to pay excessive amounts in quit rent have been told to verify this with the Land Office.
Property owners here are upset over the high increase in quit rent, claiming the new rates have gone up six-fold.
