Indonesian and Malaysian marine police have agreed to enhance direct communication at the regional level and joint patrols to stamp out piracy and human trafficking in the Straits of Malacca.
The police aim to solve high-profile cases within 14 days and more than double its manpower in its criminal investigations department in a revamp that will involve five 'problematic' sections of the CID. The move followed a call by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi last week for the setting up of a Royal Commission aimed at overhauling the Royal Malaysian Police.
