Dealing with surplus of PhD graduates

IN light of the current graduation and convocation season, it is timely to revisit the criticisms levelled at local graduates, especially PhD holders from Malaysian public universities.

This issue was brought up in the Dewan Rakyat recently following the public backlash against an MP who wrongly made false claims about the familial ties of leading politicians both in Malaysia and Singapore. Not only was the MP, who holds a PhD from a local public university, subjected to public ridicule, but aspersions were also cast on PhD holders, particularly those who graduated from public universities.
