Non-stop rain causes landslides at Penampang-Tambunan stretch

KOTA KINABALU: Non-stop rain has been blamed for the landslide and mudflow at Kampung Togudon on the Penampang-Tambunan stretch which had completely blocked access to both areas.

The Public Works Department quickly responded to a public complaint received at 2.55pm on Saturday (May 25).

In a statement, the department disclosed that immediate action had been taken, including cleaning the road surface and installing traffic management plan signs.

It also stated that there is no alternative road nearby.

Several videos of the incident have been circulated on social media.

In a 48-second video, one Mohd Yasin Mohd Yunus revealed that he was forced to return to the city following the landslide.

“This is the Penampang-Tambunan stretch. It is impassable to all types of vehicles due to the landslide and mud covering the road surface.

“I was supposed to return to Tambunan, but now I am forced to return to Kota Kinabalu. Attention to all motorists, the Tambunan - Penampang road, and vice versa, is now blocked,” he was heard saying.
