Gig Workers Commission to be tabled in next Parliament session, says Anwar (Poll Inside)

MELAKA: The details on the establishment of the Gig Workers Commission will be tabled in the next parliament session, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the commission will prioritise social protection, contract disputes and career advancement for gig workers.

"Hence, we will table the commission’s insights during the upcoming parliament proceedings," he said in his keynote address at the National Youth Day celebration in Dataran Pahlawan here on Saturday (May 25).

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusof and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh were also present.

In March, the Prime Minister announced the establishment of the Gig Workers Commission to protect the rights of 1.12 million gig workers in the country.

Additionally, Anwar said youths have the responsibility to determine the future of the country and build a stronger nation.

He said youths must have confidence, and idealism as well as being respectful to one another and saying no to corruption.

"Younger Malaysians should reject any form of racism and narrow-minded views while focusing on enrichment or knowledge to build a strong nation," he added.

Anwar said his administration also prioritises programmes related to the economy, training and youth wellbeing in fulfilling their responsibilities in this country.

The Prime Minister also said Malaysia is gradually getting the global spotlight as an ideal country for foreign investment.
