KUALA LUMPUR: Sounds of laughter and joyous chatter filled the San Choon Hall at Wisma MCA here where MCA leaders and media practitioners came together in a spirit of camaraderie for a media appreciation night.

Held just after the Chinese New Year celebrations, the night was also a time for media personnel to catch up with one another as well as with MCA leaders.

The event began with an energetic Chinese New Year song and dance performance by the MCA Youth wing, as guests tucked into a sumptuous buffet spread.

Throughout the evening, guests were kept entertained with games, lucky draws and a variety of performances.

Air-conditioning units, television sets, smart devices and electrical appliances were among prizes up for grabs.

Media practitioners also participated in a game that required them to recognise MCA leaders – many of whom were newly elected – from their photographs.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and other central committee leaders also serenaded the crowd with a popular Chinese New Year song.

In his speech, Dr Wee thanked media personnel for their hard work and commitment to bring informative and professional reports to the public.

"Political parties need the media, while the media also needs to continuously highlight updates at community level.

"In conjunction with the party's 75th anniversary, we express our appreciation to the media practitioners and we will continue to cherish this relationship," he said.

MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon also proposed a toast and wished all guests a happy Chinese New Year.

"Although we celebrated Chap Goh Mei just a few days ago, festivity is still in the air and I wish everyone Gong Xi Fa Cai and a healthy year ahead," he said.

Other party leaders in at the event were vice-presidents Datuk Tan Teik Cheng, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Jeck Seng, Datuk Lawrence Low and Datuk Lim Ban Hong; Wanita MCA chief Wong You Fong and deputy MCA Youth chief Mike Chong.

Also present at the event was Star Media Group chief content officer Datin Paduka Esther Ng and other veteran media practitioners from other media agencies.
