Continuous rains expected to hit Johor this weekend, cautions MB

JOHOR BARU: Johor is expected to see continuous rain until Sunday (Jan 14), says Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

In a statement on Facebook, Onn Hafiz reminded Johoreans to be careful, as reports from the state Meteorological Department showed that Johor would experience heavy rain until Sunday.

"Be careful all Johoreans. I have received reports from the state Meteorological Department about continuous rain until Sunday.

"Severe heavy rain alert is expected to be seen in Segamat, Kluang, Mersing and Kota Tinggi.

"Meanwhile, Tangkak, Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai and Johor Baru will also see continuous rain," he said on Friday (Jan 12).

He added that high tide was also expected to be seen, especially in Johor Baru, between Friday (Jan 12) and Wednesday (Jan 17).

"The high tide is expected to be at its worst in Johor Baru on Sunday (Jan 14) and Monday (Jan 15), which is at 3.7m," he said.

Onn Hafiz said that the state government, with the collaboration of the Johor Department of Irrigation and Drainage, prepared pumps at each affected district.

"I urge and would like to remind everyone to be on alert and listen to the instructions from the authorities and to always be prepared to face the flood for their family's safety," he said.
