Government to look into support for special needs SPM candidates, says Anwar

JOHOR BARU: The government will look into the needs of special needs students who have to travel all the way to Penang to take their SPM examination, says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that he was shocked that only one school in the country was conducting the examination for special needs students.

He was responding to a person who highlighted that special needs students from Johor need to travel all the way to take their examination in Penang to sit for the SPM examination.

Anwar was responding to questions from students and educators from various schools and institutions in UTM during his one-day working visit to Johor.

He then said that he would continue his engagements with students and other young people as it allowed him to learn more about the problems.

"As Prime Minister I do not know everything," he said, addressing questions on the needs of Form 6 and university students, problems faced by disabled students and also on poverty.

Anwar stressed that he would need more time to fix all the issues raised as he did not want to increase the country's debt level, which he said stood at RM1.5 trillion.

"I cannot continue to borrow billions to get the next generation to pay for it," he added.
