Disabled woman dies in Pontian blaze


PONTIAN: A person with disabilities has died in a house fire in Kampung Parit Hj Elias, Ayer Baloi near here.

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre said it received an emergency call at 12.27pm on Tuesday (March 28).

“Twenty-three firefighters from the Pontian and Pontian Baru stations were deployed to the scene," Pontian station chief Azhar Abdul Jalil said in a statement.

He said three vehicles were also deployed in the operation.

Azhar said 70% of the single-storey house located next to Surau Al-Hidayah in the village was destroyed.

“We found the charred body of the 47-year-old victim in the bedroom," he said.

Azhar said the woman's body was handed over to police for further action and the operation ended at 3.15pm.
