Onn Hafiz says not contesting Umno central posts in party polls

JOHOR BARU: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi will not be contesting any Umno central positions in the upcoming party polls.

“I have tried to get the views of various parties including family members, friends, leaders, grassroots machinery especially in the Simpang Renggam division about the appropriate position for me to contest for this term,” said the Umno supreme council member.

Onn Hafiz added that he is eyeing the Simpang Renggam division chief's position in the party election.

“I have decided to continue to focus on my service to Johor and God willing, will continue to strive to strengthen the administration and development of the state,” he said.

“Therefore, I will not be contesting at the central level but with a sense of humility would like to contest for the position of the Simpang Renggam division chief for this term's election,” added Onn Hafiz.

Presently, the Umno Simpang Renggam division chief is Datuk Zakaria Dullah.

Onn Hafiz - who is also the Machap assemblyman - said this in a Facebook post here on Wednesday (Feb 15).

Machap is a state seat under the Simpang Renggam parliamentary constituency.

He added that he would focus on administration and development in his constituency and the entire state.

Onn Hafiz said he was hopeful that his decision would be blessed and appealed for support from the Simpang Renggam division representatives.
