PETALING JAYA: Stop political intimidation against TikTokers who are critical of the current government, says the PAS information chief.

In a statement on Tuesday (Feb 14), Khairil Nizam Khirudin said the Islamist party strongly denounced the actions of certain "government apparatus" for intimidating and bullying TikTokers who were critical of the government.

"This action is immoral and goes against the rights on politics and freedom of speech that was previously preached by the Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan," he said.

"These TikTokers were pressured and intimidated by government apparatus because they were seen as influential and vocal.

"Not only that, they were bullied and threatened by supporters of Pakatan Harapan," he claimed.

Calling such actions as uncivilised and rude, Khairil said it was also detrimental to the country’s democracy.

"PAS is reiterating its call for political intimidation towards TikTokers who are not aligned to the current government to stop," he added.

"We urge for professional action to be taken against TikTokers who have breached the law.

"PAS believes that these threats are influenced by certain Pakatan politicians who are unhappy with the wave induced by Perikatan Nasional since the 15th General Election," he said.

He said there was no room for narrow-mindedness and inconsiderate behaviour in Malaysia Madani.

Earlier, Tasek Gelugor MP and Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan was reported as saying that he has proof that the government used its power to "silence" its critics on social media.

He claimed there were social media activists who received a notice from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for investigation on Jan 19 and was also asked for mobile phone and social media passwords.

Perikatan Nasional Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari also made a similar claim.
