PETALING JAYA: Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik (pic) returned fire on Opposition Member of Parliament Khairy Jamaluddin by cynically congratulating the Rembau MP for being "sensitive" to education matters.
Dr Maszlee, in a Facebook posting on Monday (Nov 12), reminded Khairy, who had criticised the Education Minister during the Budget 2019 debate in Parliament, that he was aware of the corruption and misdeeds of the previous Government.
"Congratulations KJ (Khairy) for being sensitive towards education issues after becoming jobless in your party," Maszlee wrote in an apparent reference to how Khairy lost in the Umno election for party president.
Khairy, during the Budget 2019 debate in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday had reportedly ticked off Dr Maszlee, who he said was being seen as making too many studies on issues that are of less importance than those related to helping the rakyat.
Khairy had said these unimportant issues include the colour of shoes and socks for school pupils.
He suggested that Dr Maszlee focus more on important matters such as the Supplementary Food Plan for schools.
Dr Maszlee said in his Facebook posting that Khairy should be aware of the problems left behind by the previous Government.
"I too know about corruption and misdeeds of the previous Government in the Supplementary Food Plan for schools, to the point that the National Audit issued a warning.
"I also know about losses of milk in the previous milk supply programme of the previous Government," said Dr Maszlee.
The Minister said that he was also aware of the many direct negotiation projects by the previous Government relating to the Ministry's projects such as the Sarawak solar project controversy and others.
Dr Maszlee said that he visits schools to listen and find out about the problems of the pupils.
He ended his post by "thanking" Khairy for his Instagram posting which included a photo of him.
On Monday, Khairy posted a photo taken in 2012 showing him shaking hands with PKR's Rafizi Ramli, with Dr Maszlee looking on.
In his Instagram posting, Khairy noted how Dr Maszlee is now Education Minister.
In what appears to be a response to Khairy's Instagram post, Dr Maszlee wrote in his Facebook: "Thank you for the 'nice words' in your tweet yesterday. Can't wait to see your new party..."
