A solemn send-off for Johor Ruler's mother

JOHOR BARU: The mood was solemn as the casket bearing the remains of the Johor Ruler's mother Enche Besar Hajah Khalsom Abdullah was brought out of Istana Besar here at around 10.20am on Wednesday.

The casket was placed on the hearse, which was pulled by 40 Johor Military Force soldiers on foot to the Royal Mausoleum located about 2.87km from Istana Besar.

Accompanying the remains on the hearse were Hajah Khalsom's grandsons Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Ibni Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Panglima Johor Tunku Abdul Rahman.

Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei and Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail and other members of the royal family also joined in the procession.

They were followed by state dignitaries and members of the public.

Earlier, acting Pahang Sultan Tengku Mahkota Pahang Tengku Abdullah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah and his wife Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Binti Almarhum Sultan Iskandar arrived at around 9am at Istana Besar to pay their last respects.

Hajah Khalsom's body was flown home Tuesday night from London on His Majesty's private plane.

Hajah Khalsom, 83, died at King Edward VII's Hospital in London on Friday (June 1).
