KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairman Christina Liew says she is puzzled why Parti Amanah Negara’s state chairman Hamzah Abdullah was allowed to break ranks and contest the Batu Sapi seat against coalition partner Parti Warisan Sabah.
The state Pakatan chairman said that she was scolded by party leaders for “allowing” it to happen.
“I had nothing to do with it but I got scolded by party leaders,” she told reporters when asked on Tuesday (May 1) about Hamzah filing his nomination papers in Batu Sapi when he was asked to stay out of the election.
Liew said that she did not know why Hamzah went ahead with the blessing of Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
“I’m not sure how and why Mat Sabu agreed to that,” she said during a walkabout at the Segama night market here.
Hamzah is in a four-cornered fight against former Liberal Democratic party president Datuk V.K. Liew who is contesting under the Warisan ticket, as well as PBS’ Datuk Linda Tsen and PAS’ Norsah Bongsu in Batu Sapi.
Another Amanah candidate is contesting the Merotai state seat.
Meanwhile, Hamzah said that they were only asking for one seat from Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Hamzah said that Mohd Shafie refused and offered him a senatorship for not contesting, adding that the latter was acting as if Warisan was already in government by offering a senatorship as a trading point even before it won.
